President’s Message

Dear Pinellas Colleagues,

I understand as professionals we are not supposed to play favorites when it comes to patients, but I suspect we all do. There are amazing pets and clients that we light up for because of our connection with them, they make a day better and us happier when we see them. It may be from your impact in their life when you provided life-saving care, their breed or species reminding you of a previous beloved pet, or simply their per-petually happy or grumpy personality appealing to you.
One type of dog that has always been special to me personally is because of their role, service dogs. Whether it is signal alert, seizure monitoring, vision-impaired assistance animals, search and rescue or the myriad of other jobs they fill, it never ceases to amaze how ver-satile and incredible these pets can be with proper training, and the need they fill. The difference they make in people’s lives makes their medical care of even greater importance when I see them because that care has a ripple effect on everyone their training supports. Among the many things celebrated this month, it is National Service Dog Month. I feel honored each time I get to make a difference in their lives, because of the selfless service they provide to others, and how they en-joy performing those duties, serving as a powerful example to me. Similar to them, I hope to empower others to live their best lives both professionally and personally. Although we may not be able to sniff out cancer cells, find lost individuals in avalanches, or sense an imminent seizure, we can all bring unconditional love in a greeting, comfort in a time of difficult emotions, confidence to someone nervous about attempting something new.
I hope you find the patience and time to help support those around you, like these incredible creatures.
