President’s Message

Dear Pinellas Colleagues,

I hope you all are staying cool in our Florida heat and finding time for self-care as we roll through summer.  With our country’s founding 250th year celebration this year (the semiquincentennial or sestercentennial), it makes me think about history and how far we have come as a country, profession and association.  Even though FVMA was founded in 1928, PCVMA founded in 1965 is one of if not the oldest local/regional veterinary medical association in Florida, with most being founded in the 70’s or later.  That means 60+ years of community, multiple generations/careers of veterinarians, millions of animals and customers provided care, and countless new medications and evolutions in our profession.

Our strength as a community continues to form mentorships and friendships, support each other during professional and personal crises, and provides a solid foundation that makes our group the largest and one of the most active veterinary associations in Florida.  We truly have a spectrum of experience ranging from new graduates to retired local legends.  For a field that often has multiple changes in employment, personal growth, new leadership roles and life changes, that constancy is something special.  This field and career can be emotionally challenging at times for everyone and can take its toll.  As we move towards the future, one that includes AI, self-diagnosis by clients using ChatGPT, new regulations and the next “evolution” in veterinary practice and medicine, I hope each of you remembers and feels supported by this group through all of those changes, as we face those new challenges.  
Happy birthday America indeed, and thank you all for being part of this amazing family of professionals, now and into the future.
